What is ELSA on a National Belgian Level? ELSA Belgium is coordinating the five local groups of ELSA Belgium and giving information to the local groups from the International Network. For Step we bring out a digital newsletter which is provided to all students interested in STEP traineeships. ELSA Belgium is also organizing twice a year an NCM, National Council Meeting were students from different universities gather to discuss the working of ELSA Belgium. In the future it’s our goal to give smaller trainings during those NCM’s in soft skills. We hope to find partners to help us strengthen our network in Belgium. What is the ELSA House Training Week? Committed to providing students with opportunities to improve their soft skills, ELSA Belgium organises the ELSA House Training Week. This event aims at improving general knowledge on management of the Association and focuses on training in soft skills such as negotiation techniques, presentation skills, project management and risk management. In line with ELSA’s aim of embracing the cultural diversity among European law students, the event gathers 50 law students from over the whole continent, producing a learning experience in an international environment. Of course there this is an Belgium project also Belgian students will get the opportunity to take part to the EHTW. The ELSA House Training Week enforced a great success for eight years now and represents a motor for the Association’s development with participants returning home motivated, better skilled and ready to invest themselves in projects across Europe and for sure in Belgium. What is the STEP programme? The Student Trainee Exchange Programme (STEP) is a trainee exchange programme, which offers law firms and companies the possibility to employ a trainee from a foreign European country. The duration of the traineeship varies from 2 to 78 weeks and it may take place during any time of the year. Participation in STEP is a very simple, yet effective way for firms, companies or institutions to broaden horizons and establish valuable contacts with future lawyers. Furthermore, the employer reaps benefits from the experience and knowledge the foreign trainee brings from his or her own legal system or jurisdiction. When taking part in STEP the employer is provided with a selection of suitably qualified students or young lawyers from which to make a choice. Whether special knowledge of a particular field of law is required, or translation of legal documents, ELSA can provide a trainee to meet the employer's needs. There is the possibility to create the qualification profile that the trainee must possess. The employer sets the requirements regarding language skills, academic background and level of studies. Considering the profile of Deloitte, we feel there is a strong possibility for us of developing a co-operation regarding STEP.
